An ancient game that is played in , mainly more than two thousand years old, is the Mahjong. This game is played with tiles and that is not hard to learn and play. Mahjong has the aim that the first player to fulfill a hand with four sets of three or four sets of tiles in a suit and to have an equal pair in any suit will win the game. This is analogous to solitaire like bingo games apart from tiles are used in this game instead of cards. In this game four players can take part and they should be seated around the table with the tiles in the center and face-down. Every side of the table is signified by the four winds, thus there are north, south, east and west winds. Overall, one hundred forty-four tiles are used in this game and the game starts when each player takes thirty-six tiles and place them in two rows of eighteen each piled on top of one another. Every player moves forward the two rows into the center of the table in the shape of a square. At the later on point in this game the tiles are replaced for flowers, hence seven piles are put to one side for this. The game is started by rolling the dice by the east player and obtaining tiles from the wall. The player’s hand consists of fourteen tiles. It little bit similar to play bingo. As tiles are removed, the tiles in the lower layers are open to the elements. Mahjong players clear the pattern by drawing tiles and make a decision if they want to keep the draw and coupling the tiles as they continue to play the game. Numbers are printed on the tiles which correspond to the points and these establish the player’s score on the particular game.
Another game in which tiles are used is Pai Gow tiles, which is also a Chinese game. It can be largely seen where there is large population of Asians. This is considered as a challenging game for players, which is played with a set of thirty-two dominoes or tiles, with a certain number of dots on it. Pai Gow tiles are very popular since it has a very low house advantage of one to three percent depending on which strategy is followed by the player. Four tiles are dealt at a time, by rolling the dice. The aim of the game is to attain the best high hand and the best low hand result to beat the dealer. The game is considered to be a draw when the player has only one high among the two hands. The house or the dealer should first display his hand after the deal has completed and the players setting their hands in the game. After that every player’s hand is compared to the dealer’s hand to decide the winners and losers. The best high hand is the highest pair. The winning hand (high and low) pays even money less a 5% casino bonus. |
